The Ham National is coming to Bath

Bath Racecourse is holding their very own version of The Grand National, but with pigs hogging the lime light. Yes Bath’s very own ‘Ham National’ is coming to town!

Pig racing will be taking place at the Lansdown track as part of the season opening Countryside raceday on Sunday 25th April.

Eight rare breed pigs, including Oxford, Sandy and Black, will be racing along a 50 meter shoot complete with hurdles to their prize – a trough of food!

The event is taking place as part of the Racecourse’s Countryside Raceday which will include lots of free childrens entertainment as well as a petting zoo, with plenty of opportunities for children to be photographed with the animals.

Entries for the Ham National include Comply or Fry, Desert Porchid and Porko Star and race punters will be able to guess the winner with all proceeds going to the Countryside Alliance.
Jo Miller, General Manager at Bath Racecourse said, “Our opening Countryside raceday is going to be a great start to our season. There is entertainment for all ages with horse racing and our first Ham National fixture. There will be plenty for children to get up to during the afternoon, with free entertainment as well as under 16’s entering for free. It makes for an affordable family day out!”

The season opening countryside day takes place on Sunday 25th April. Gates open 12 noon, first race 2:10pm, last race 5:25pm. Pig racing will be taking place throughout the afternoon with the Ham National race at 3:00pm. Tickets start from £10 in the Centre Course Picnic Enclosure. Children under 16 enter for free when accompanied by a paying adult.
