CBBC Autumn Concert 'Bach, Bruckner, Britten'![]() 07 November 2009 The City of Bath Bach Choir's Autumn Concert - 'Bach, Bruckner, Britten', conducted by Nigel Perrin - is an exciting and musically diverse programme of works from three favourite choral composers, each masters of their art working in different centuries, coupled with performances from four very youthful trombonists. Specialist music students from Wells Cathedral School in Somerset , the trombonists will play in three of Bruckner’s deeply devout and emotional Sacred Choruses written between 1861 and 1892: music conspicuously inspired by Bruckner’s own faith and held to be among the finest for the Roman Catholic liturgy of the past 150 years. Recently returned from performing in Bach’s own church, the Thomaskirche in Leipzig , the choir will also perform Bach’s Jesu meine Freude, an inventive, extended motet, and Lobet den Herrn, a Protestant fanfare of praise full of Bach’s rhythmic exuberance. From the 20th century comes Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb, a short, dynamic cantata full of drama and eccentricity. The programme will be completed by organ pieces from Frank Bridge (a teacher of Britten’s) and the French virtuoso organist Joseph Bonnet, executed on Bath Abbey’s famous Klais organ by Marcus Sealy.
