City of Bath

Queen Square, Bath.

Queen Square is a peaceful green area in the heart of Bath. It is surrounded by Georgian buildings, including the Mercure Francis Hotel on the south side of Queen Square. All major attractions in Bath are close by and within walking distance. The obelisk in the centre of Queen Square records the visit of Frederick, Prince of Wales. It was designed by John Wood and paid for by Beau Nash. The stone was donated by Ralph Allen, whose quarries supplied the honey coloured limestone that gives Bath a unique character.
